It’s October.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Awareness is everywhere. Pink is everywhere.
The Whitmore Project did more than that for me.
Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to go to the Detroit screening of The Whitmore Project.
The Whitmore Project is a deeply personal documentary that chronicles Lisa’s victorious battle with breast cancer. Through her lens, and that of her loved ones, viewers are invited into the raw, vulnerable, and often inspiring moments of her treatment and recovery. The film weaves together journal entries, candid photographs, and video footage into an intimate narrative of hope, determination, and grace. As she rings the bell, Lisa’s triumph is palpable. It represents not just the end of her cancer journey, but the beginning of a new, cancer-free chapter in her life.
I had no idea what to expect when I walked in. But… I’ll be honest, I caught my eyes watering a few times during the documentary.

What really struck me, though, was the strength Lisa and her daughter carried through the whole thing. At a time when everything is wavering, when life feelslike it’s falling apart, seeing someone go through the pits and still hold on to faith and hope… that’s powerful. That’s empowering.
Here at Strut, we’re always looking for the lessons. And as I sat there reflecting on everything I’d just watched, I realized—those lessons? They apply to (almost) anything.
The Lessons Lisa Taught Me
1. Listen to Your Body: Don’t ignore what your body is telling you.
2. Advocate for Yourself: You are your own best champion—speak up for your health.
3. Keep Up With Routine Check-Ups: Prevention and early detection are everything.
4. Remember: Breast Cancer Doesn’t Have an Age: It can happen to anyone, at any time… awareness and vigilance matter.
These lessons aren’t just for breast cancer—they’re lessons for life. It’s about listening, noticing, and taking action early for anything that threatens your health, your peace, or your well-being.
