Review of Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton Exciting Season Two

When the first season of Bridgerton arrived on Netflix on Christmas Day 2020, no one knew that the show would turn into a global phenomenon. But that it is, so anticipation for the arrival of Bridgerton season two is certainly high. With that in mind, let me cut to the chase and start off by saying that the second season is just as captivating as the first — even without the handsome and debonair Duke of Hastings, whom I just like millions of others wanted to see return. But, as we all know, that is not to be.

I must admit that when I started to watch the first episode of season two, I had my mind set; I wasn’t going to like the show anymore. What? No duke! I felt like I and all the other fans out there were going to be disappointed. Still, I decided to watch anyway, just so I could be convinced that I was right! But I couldn’t have been more wrong. Season two is just as titillating, just as juicy, and just as addicting as the first! I found myself binging out, watching several episodes at a time. Day after day, after getting home from work, I couldn’t wait to grab my iPad, jump into bed, and settle in to watch the show. I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. And never, not once, was I disappointed.

Bridgerton Season 1 Review

In the first season, we watched as the love story between Daphne Bridgerton and the Duke, Simon Basset, unfolded. Even though they tried to deny it — and fought it — their chemistry was magnetic and their attraction to one another was undeniable. In a number of ways, their story mirrored what happens to many couples in the real world: they get together, break up, go their separate ways, and ultimately reunite once they realize that their lives are better together than they are apart.

Bridgerton Season 2 Review

This season, there’s a threesome that grabs attention. It involves Kate and Edwina Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton, Daphne’s older brother, the very eligible viscount.

Kate, Edwina, and their mother, Lady Mary, leave India and arrive in London, looking for a husband for Edwina, the younger sister. Shortly after arriving in town, the very strong-willed Kate and headstrong Anthony, who’s used to having things his way, have a surprise close encounter that doesn’t go well. When Edwina falls for the viscount, Kate — denying her growing feelings for Anthony — does everything she can to keep them apart.

Watching Anthony pursue Kate, then Edwina, then Kate, and back again, was so enticing I couldn’t turn away. And watching one episode at a time was nearly impossible. More often than not, I watched two episodes back-to-back. And one night, I became so engrossed that I really indulged and watched three in a row! Yes, it’ll have that effect on you.

While this love triangle is a central part of the second season and its one that, alone, would be enough to entice viewers to keep coming back for the next episode and the next and the next, just as we saw in the first season; one story is just not enough! There are so many other intriguing stories to follow, including Penelope and her burgeoning business; Eloise, who remains intent on discovering the identity of Lady Whistledown; and Colin Bridgerton, who returns after having left town in search of grander exploits. Not to mention the queen!

As eager as she is to read the gossip mag every time a new one is published, Queen Charlotte is not the least bit happy with what she’s reading. So, to see the lengths she goes to in order to try and uncover Whistledown’s identity is yet another reason to keep watching.

With all of this and so much more waiting for fans when they tune in to the second season, there’s no doubt Bridgerton will continue to be one of the most popular series on Netflix.

Have You Watched It Yet?

In my case, even though the second season has just arrived, I can barely wait for season number three! But, until then, I just might have to get my fix by rewatching the first two. Because they’re absolutely worth it.

Bridgerton season two premiered on March 25th on Netflix.
