Where the Bag At: Resources to Help You Reach Your Financial Goals in 2022

Over the past two years, millions of Americans have experienced job instability and financial struggles due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The median income of Black private households in the United States was rising between 2017 and 2019, where the median household income for Black families increased from $42,511 USD to $46,005 USD. However, from 2019 to 2020, the median household income for Black families decreased for the first time in three years to $45,870 USD.

In light of this, many people are eager to understand their finances and learn how they can save and grow their money as we move through this new year. We’re here to help you reach your financial goals.

We compiled a list of financial resources to help Black women learn how to best use their money and meet all of their financial goals in 2022 from other experienced Black women professionals. Saving, budgeting, and investing can seem daunting when you have never learned about these extensive topics.

Luckily, these resources provide easy-to-understand information about economics and finances that will leave you feeling confident when building your wealth portfolio. The following list includes podcasts and books by Black women leaders about financial literacy and courses taught by Black women businesses professionals about financial literacy to help kick-start your year of wealth building.

Sisternomics Podcast

Sisternomics is a podcast hosted by Monique Caradine Kitchen. The podcast’s mission is to help Black women entrepreneurs who want the most practical mindset, marketing, and business building tips for reaching their next income level. In this podcast, Kitchen invites Black industry professionals to share their stories and tips for how they became successful in their respective businesses. With episodes entitled “How to Turn Your Downtime Into Wealth-Building Time” and “How To Quit Your Job and Launch Your Business,” Sisternomics has information to help both budding and experienced entrepreneurs strengthen their businesses.

Side Hustle Pro Podcast

Entrepreneur Nicaila Matthews Okome created Side Hustle Pro in 2016 to spotlight bold, Black women entrepreneurs who have scaled from side hustle to profitable business. As the first podcast of its kind, Side Hustle Pro has gained millions of monthly listeners and national recognition.

Their episodes include stories from Black women in different professional industries who provide first-hand testimonials about their experiences and tips to help other Black women learn how to create wealth and expand their businesses. After watching the success of her podcast, Okome created the Podcast Moguls accelerator program in 2018, which is an 8-week online course that teaches podcasters how to triple their downloads and monetize from their podcasts.
