Jessica Randolph
How did you get started in your industry?
I started my business during a dark period in my life. I had graduated from college a year or two before– and I felt like I didn’t have control of my destiny. So I studied film, and I decided to figure out a way to jumpstart my creative career on my terms. I’m so thankful that I decided to take control– because my efforts are paying off years later.
Growing up, did you imagine being an entrepreneur?
Not at all. I watched my mom run her business, and it never seemed like something I would want to do. But, as a woman, I’m so thankful that my mother was a brilliant example of what freedom can look like.
In the beginning stages of developing your brand/business, what was your biggest struggle and how did you overcome it?
For a long time, I felt like finding clients was the main problem. Now, I realize that the packaging of my services was the major barrier.
Do you feel like you are pursuing purpose? If so, how did you know this was your purpose?
I’m proud to say that my life is JAM PACKED with purpose. It took a really long time for me to figure myself out because I’m just… really not like anyone else I know. I think our culture has a bad habit of basing progress on what others are doing. My work on my business, the time I get to spend with my Grandma, and my work with creatives in Anacostia bring me so much joy.

What is the best part of JessBe Creative? What keeps you motivated to keep going?
I think the need for loud, proud cultural competency work keeps me going. For much of my career, I hid behind my camera. I doubted my brilliance. Here I am though! Pushing through it all.
As an entrepreneur myself, I understand that sometimes personal life can get in the way of business. Have you encountered any personal hurdles that could have or did result in a business pivot?
Whew. My mother and I are caretakers for my Grandma. She has Parkinson’s– and we don’t have help. I can’t lie– it’s been hard on me. My business style is super personal, so I often feel really drained. No regrets, though. I wish I could like… sometimes stop, lol.
During these times, we’ve all had to adjust. How was this adjustment been for you and your brand?
Honestly, business is booming. People have been looking for ME for once. It’s amazing
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
- Your gut is never wrong.
- Make good friends and look out for them.
- Professionalism is an illusion. Be yourself.
Lastly, what keeps you struttin?
My amazing friends! I love each of them passionately. Also, my mom, grandma, and my lil boyfriend tew.
