How did you get started in your industry?

When I moved to Tampa, Florida to pursue my Master’s Degree in Digital Journalism, I enjoyed going out and connecting with people in the nightlife. That’s when it all clicked. That’s when I knew I had a passion for telling real stories about real people. At the beginning of the pandemic, I began writing papers for students, which turned into writing stories for small businesses and developed into building content. Through content building, I started working with party promoters which led me to host parties. Now I offer professional branding and writing services to small businesses and professionals and host travel groups and special events. It has been rewarding to build my business based on my passion for people and storytelling.

Growing up, did you imagine being an entrepreneur?

I have always had a passion for storytelling and writing. From a little girl, I use to make up the most creative and dramatic plots for my Barbie doll and Bratz lives. I was very active in theater and enjoyed becoming someone new on the stage. I never knew how much that part of my life played a role until I chose a career, but I never thought growing up I would be an entrepreneur.

In the beginning stages of developing your brand/business, what was your biggest struggle and how did you overcome it?

Searching for the “right” job in the corporate world and being an entrepreneur full-time is tough. In my industry, it isn’t easy to retain clients. Businesses need consistent branding and social media management, but most startup businesses cannot afford the cost of that service for extended periods. Also, in journalism, things are constantly changing as media changes and news becomes more accessible through various sites, blogs, and social media. I have learned that working with others in a creative and competitive industry, such as social media, news, and journalism, I will have to accept failure, defeat, bad reviews, and lack of clientele for short periods. Developing my hosting agency wasn’t too difficult to start up because I waited until I had the connections and experience to begin advertising.

Do you feel like you are pursuing purpose? If so, how did you know this was your purpose?

I do feel I am pursuing my purpose in various ways. However, I do not think I have reached my purpose yet, but I am discovering my purpose through my career choice.

What is the best part of BB Journalism Services, LLC? What keeps you motivated to keep going?

I am proud of the connections that I have made and how I have built my brand. But, my biggest motivation in all I do is my mom.

As an entrepreneur myself, I understand that sometimes personal life can get in the way of business. Have you encountered any personal hurdles that could have or did result in a business pivot?

This has been challenging because of my mental health. I suffer from depression and anxiety, so I have to take breaks for my mental health from both of my businesses.

During these times, we’ve all had to adjust. How was this adjustment been for you and your brand?

When I became an entrepreneur, it was the riskiest time in modern history. Amid a global pandemic, I decided to take the money I would not make back and purchase an LLC for a business that I had not even begun to receive support or clientele for. Reflecting a year later, I would have made the same decision every time. Yet, since I started, there have been no adjustments to my business besides price increase.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?

The most important piece of advice is to be patient with yourself. We all compare even if we don’t try to, but you have to focus on your journey.

Lastly, what keeps you struttin?

You have to bet on yourself. The number of times we as humans put our trust in others is higher than the number of times we trust ourselves. What keeps me struttin is my confidence in myself to make it happen.
